This year we explore the winter wildlife that lives in and around trees, with wildlife films, sustainable crafts and more. We look at the trees around us in the city, trees across the collections in the University of Cambridge, and some of the animals that rely on trees through the winter months. For our livestream on November 27 we were joined by Kenny McGregor, Arboricultural Officer at Cambridge City Council, whose job it is to know and look after the trees in our city. Catch up now to find out about some of the treasures on the doorstep, and what you can do to help support tree cover at home. We had some fantastic questions from the audience watching on the night, with fascinating answers. It is really worth taking a look!
After watching the livestream, why not visit the Museum for more tree-themed fun with our family activity day on Saturday 30 November? We will be building tree habitats by adding leaves, animals and more to our ‘trees’ in the Discovery Space, testing your memory with our Jay Game, and we are joined by textiles artist Stephanie Norwood to create sustainable fabric patches and build a wall hanging for the Museum’s learning lab. It’s free and drop-in so there is no need to book.
Want to try our festive craft from the livestream at home? All you’ll need is:
- A collection of fallen leaves
- Wax crayons
- Paper (nothing too thick)
- Optional are paints, scissors, glue stick, scrap card, twine and paper tape
